The Ministry of Health announced new rules for the isolation of people who are contaminated by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The time should vary according to the symptoms presented and the tests of covid-19 carried out. Overall, the average should be 7 days.

5 days of isolation

The patient who tested positive for covid-19 can leave isolation in 5 days, provided that he performs a second test – which can be either the RT-PCR or the rapid antigen test – on the fifth day and this test is negative. In addition, the person cannot have respiratory symptoms or fever for at least 24 hours without the use of antipyretics.

Now, if the result of the covid-19 test is positive on the fifth day, the person must remain in isolation for 10 days from the onset of symptoms.

7 days of isolation

In general, "isolation is seven days. If the patient did not want to test on the fifth day, but if on the seventh day he has no symptoms, no fever and no use of medication for 24 hours, he can leave the isolation. It is not necessary to test", explained the secretary of Health Surveillance, Arnaldo Correia de Medeiros.

10 days of isolation

For those who still show symptoms on the seventh day, testing for covid-19 will be mandatory, according to Health. Currently, units of the Unified Health System (SUS) perform free tests for the disease.

If the result is negative, the person must wait 24 hours without respiratory symptoms and fever, and without the use of antipyretics, to leave the isolation. If so, the patient should wait for the total remission of symptoms.

According to the folder, the new guidelines will be fully disclosed in the new version of the Recommendations Guide – Home Isolation. The document should be available this Tuesday (11).
